Wickedly Good Italian Food - Recipe for Bolognese

So Tuesday the cooking-bug hit me and I whipped up some Bolognese sauce to put over homemade pasta...DELICIOUS! I posted the recipe and pictures on my food blog. Head on over and check it out.

Cowboy Dinner at the Old-Folks Home

I wish I had pictures to go with this post, cuz they would be adorable. I went with my mother tonight to have dinner with my grandma. She is currently living at this fantastic assisted-care facility in northeast Mesa. Tonight was their special "Family & Friends Cowboy Dinner" night. We took grandma downstairs to the dinning room which was filled with people in checkered shirts and cowboy hats. Boy did those people know how to get in the spirit of things. There was enough "bling" there to rival what I saw at the Houston Rodeo.

To top it off, the dinner was better than any barbecue that I had in Houston (not counting my Uncle Reed's grilling). They had these great ribs and their baked beans were pretty darn good. I had fun watching people dance in the isles and all the visitors and residents really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I was impressed by the fact that most of the employees new all the residents by name. My grandma had something interesting to tell me about most every person that walked, scooted, or rolled by.

I had a wonderful evening and made another wonderful memory with my grandma.

It's coming...ready or not!

It hit 93 degrees today and it's only the beginning. Summer is COMING! And that means bathing suit season is just around the corner...ready or not!

*Hiccup* help

I just got the hiccups...really bad. So I decided to Google "cure for hiccups". Here are some of the answers I got.

Water and Knife Method

  1. Fill up a glass of water and get a butter knife.
  2. Put the knife, blade up, into the glass.
  3. Drink the water with the blade pressing on your forehead until it is all gone.

Holding your breath

  1. Take a deep breath.
  2. Hold for as long as you can.
  3. Exhale slowly.

Open your mouth

  1. Open your mouth and keep it open for a couple of minutes.
  2. If you feel the need to swallow, do so, but try to keep your lips apart when you do.

Water Method

  1. Fill a glass full with water.
  2. Drink all the water without stopping.
  3. Hold your breath and close your nose with your fingers.

Gulp

  1. Make sure you are not wearing anything tight around your chest. If you are, loosen it.
  2. Keep gulping every few seconds, especially when you feel a hiccup might be coming. A couple of hiccups might escape, but with continuous gulping, hiccups should be gone within 3 minutes.

Looking at an object

  1. Divert your attention towards any object.
  2. Keep concentrating on the object.
  3. While concentrating, think hiccups are okay. Hiccups are not harmful. You can overcome them soon.
So what do you do to cure hiccups? *hiccup*

Back from Sabbatical With New Flower

So it would seem that I've returned from my month long sabbatical. It's not that I haven't had anything to blog about, it's almost the opposite in fact. I have had too much happening and not even a minute of time to sit down and blog, literally. From the moment I wake up (I trying to get back on the 4:30am work out schedule - not going exactly as I had hoped, *sigh*) until the moment my head hits the pillow (somewhere between 9:30pm and 10:00pm) I'm going -- work, RS, RS, friends, and more RS (it sure would be nice to fit some dating in there *huge sigh*). Besides, after spending 8-10 hours a day at work on the computer, I'm always hard pressed to want to turn it on when I get home.

HOWEVER, I need to blog for me -- my personal record, and to connect with the outside world, through something other than Facebook *another big sigh*.

Anywhoooo, last Saturday my friend Jacque and her mother taught Susan and I how to make these FAAAABULOUS flowers which can be worn in your hair, on your shirt, on your purse, attached to a necklace, basically any where you need a little dazzle. They were super simple to make and are super cute. All you need is synthetic fabric, a candle, needle and thread, a button, and some felt for the back. I can't wait to make more. Here's my first flower. It's roughly 3.5inx3.5in and has an alligator clip on the back.

I took several shots of the flower, some with my camera on a tripod and others just holding the camera
