A Refuge from the Storm

I've spent the morning preparing to teach Sunday School. The Lesson is "Building the Kingdom of God" and it focuses on the trials endured by the early saints as they established Nauvoo and the blessings they received as they faithfully endured to the end. Of course all the lessons they learned have direct application in our lives today.

Anyway, one of the topics to be covered is "The Lord Always Prepares a Place For His Saints". We will discuss how the Lord's Church is a refuge in the storm of life. I found this great quote from Elder David B. Haight (Ensign November 1990,59):

The moment we step into the house of the Lord, the atmosphere changes from the worldly to the heavenly, where respite from the normal activities of life is found, and where peace of mind and spirit is received. It is refuge from the ills of life and a protection from the temptations that are contrary to our spiritual well-being. We are told that 'he who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world and eternal life in the world to come' (D&C 59:23).

This is why I go to church each Sunday. I need the peace and rejuvenation that find there.

May your Sabbath be filled with peace.
